Competition Terms & Conditions

IMPORTANT: By registering for and participating in Scratchathon 2025, you agree to be bound by these Competition Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully before registering.
1. Competition Overview
Scratchathon 2025 is a state-level Scratch programming competition organized by STEM Academy Sdn Bhd, focusing on the theme of Climate Action (Sustainable Development Goal 13).
Key Details:
- Theme: Climate Action (SDG 13)
- Platform: Scratch programming environment
- Participants: Primary (7-12 years) and Secondary (13-20 years) students
- Registration Deadline: October 8, 2025
- Submission Deadline: October 8, 2025
- Grand Finale: Mid - End of October 2025
2. Eligibility & Registration
Participant Requirements:
- Age: 7-20 years old at the time of registration
- Must be a student in Sarawak (Primary or Secondary level)
- Participants must have parental/guardian consent
- One project submission per participant
- All registration information must be accurate and complete
Registration Process:
- Complete online registration form with personal details
- Provide parent/guardian information
- Receive unique 6-digit PIN via email
- PIN required for project submission
3. Project Requirements
Technical Requirements:
- Platform: Scratch only (.sb3 files)
- File Size: Maximum 100MB
- Originality: Must be new, original work created for this competition
- Theme Compliance: Must address Climate Action (SDG 13)
- Content: School-appropriate, educational, and engaging
Project Description:
- Provide clear project title
- Include project description (maximum 500 words)
- Explain how the project addresses climate action themes
4. Intellectual Property & Usage Rights
Participant Rights:
- Participants retain ownership of their original creative work
- Projects must not infringe on third-party copyrights
- Use of copyrighted materials (images, sounds) must comply with fair use or be properly licensed
Competition Usage Rights:
By submitting a project, participants grant STEM Academy Sdn Bhd the right to:
- Display projects in competition galleries, exhibitions, and promotional materials
- Share winning projects for educational purposes and community showcase
- Use project images/videos in marketing materials, websites, and social media
- Feature participants in competition documentation and awards ceremonies
- Archive projects for educational reference and future competition examples
Credit: Participants will be properly credited when their work is displayed or shared.
5. Judging & Evaluation
Judging Criteria:
- Climate Theme (25%): How well the project addresses climate action and environmental sustainability
- Creative Design & Innovation (25%): Original approach, creative problem-solving, and unique ideas
- Technical Skill (20%): Programming complexity, functionality, and proper use of Scratch features
- User Friendliness (20%): Game playability, clear instructions, and engaging user experience
- Project Description (10%): Clear explanation of project goals and climate action connection
Judging Process:
- Preliminary online screening of all submissions
- Shortlisted participants advance to Grand Finale
- Final judging at live event in Kuching
- Judges' decisions are final
6. Awards & Recognition
- Certificates: All qualified participants receive participation certificates
- Category Winners: Trophies and medals for Primary and Secondary categories
- Special Awards: Recognition for outstanding creativity, technical skill, and theme alignment
- PAJSK Recognition: State-level recognition and portfolio credits
- Public Showcase: Winner projects displayed in public exhibitions
7. Code of Conduct
Expected Behavior:
- Maintain academic integrity and fair play
- Respect fellow participants, judges, and organizers
- Follow all competition rules and deadlines
- Create appropriate, educational content
- Participate in good faith and sportsmanship
Prohibited Activities:
- Plagiarism or copying existing projects
- Submitting inappropriate or offensive content
- Multiple submissions from the same participant
- Collaboration between participants (individual competition)
- Late submissions or incomplete registrations
8. Disqualification
Participants may be disqualified for:
- Violation of competition rules
- Submission of non-original work
- Inappropriate or offensive content
- Providing false information during registration
- Missing registration or submission deadlines
- Failure to comply with code of conduct
9. Data Protection & Privacy
Personal data collected during registration and submission is handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010. Please refer to our separate Data Collection Notice for detailed information.
10. Liability & Disclaimer
- STEM Academy is not liable for technical issues, lost submissions, or connectivity problems
- Participants are responsible for backing up their work
- Competition format may be adjusted due to unforeseen circumstances
- No compensation is provided for participation
11. Force Majeure
STEM Academy is not liable for delays, cancellations, or modifications due to:
- Natural disasters, pandemics, or public health emergencies
- Government regulations or restrictions
- Technical failures beyond reasonable control
- Other unforeseeable circumstances
In such cases, alternative arrangements may be made, including online alternatives or rescheduling.
12. Changes to Terms
STEM Academy reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. Participants will be notified of significant changes via email and website updates.
